Members had a wonderful Outing yesterday, enjoying the fantastic weather. We enjoyed the lovely views of the countryside, especially the Malvern Hills on our outward journey.Upon our arrival at our first stop, people who had not visited for some time ,were amazed at the size of “Webb’s of Wychbold” Garden Centre and associated business’s.
We left their at 12:30 and were making excellent progress for our booked escorted visit around David Austin Roses at 2:00pm. Unfortunately we then had to enjoy the delights of Britain’s road network and the regular congestion around Birmingham leading to the M5/M6 Junction. A distance of approximately 30 miles taking two and a quarter hours !! Making us 45 minutes late to arrive, having been informed by us ,the staff upon our arrival were brilliant. We all enjoyed our Scone,Clotted Cream and Strawberry Jam and a lovely cup of tea or Coffee before our escorted tour instead of after it .The gardens were an absolute Delight,Magnificent, the multitudes of Roses making for a fantastic sight. Our Guide gave out some excellent tips on Rose Care, the history of the company and it’s present expansion into Japan. We were allowed behind the scenes to see Roses that were being developed for the future and told they could take 10 years to bring the Rose to the standard required before it was released for sale.We congratulate ” David Austin Roses” on them again having just won a “Gold Medal” at Hampton Court.
We then enjoyed our 10% discount vouchers in the Visitor Centre, with many plants and other items, making their way into our coach. After discussion our very helpful Coach Driver, who we wish to Thank, decided we would return by the scenic route to Shrewsbury,Church Stretton, Craven Arms, Ludlow, Leominster and Hereford. The countryside was truly at it’s best and being able to sit ,higher up and enjoy it was a real treat
People are now trying to find places to put the Roses they bought into their gardens !! also to explain in some cases to their Spouses why they bought another plant that they found irresitisble !!
